Have you ever dreamed of visiting the Castle of Lazise? If you are among the lucky few who have had this opportunity, you already know how magical it is. Its magnificent 19th-century gardens and imposing medieval walls, standing intact for over 1,100 years, tell a story that continues to fascinate and amaze.
A History Spanning Centuries
In the 13th century, the Castle of Lazise became the property of the Scaligeri family, the same noble dynasty that built the famous castles of Torri del Benaco, Malcesine, and Sirmione. The castle’s impressive walls embrace the entire historic center of Lazise, giving the village a unique and timeless atmosphere. Visitors can enter the town through three main gates: Porta San Zeno, Porta del Lion, and Porta Cansignorio.
A Romantic 19th-Century Garden
The castle is nestled within a magnificent 19th-century romantic garden, designed by Gian Battista Buri. A man of great culture and a passionate botanist, Buri purchased the castle in 1871 and transformed the surrounding area, creating a stunning park that reshaped the original medieval structure.
An Exclusive and Enchanting Place
Today, the Castle of Lazise is a private residence and not open to the public. However, its majestic walls and picturesque entrance continue to captivate visitors, making Lazise one of the most photographed villages on Lake Garda and in northern Italy.
An Unforgettable Experience
During a special music event organized by the Civil Protection and Coast Guard, we had the rare privilege of entering the castle and experiencing its enchanting beauty firsthand. The photos from that evening capture the timeless charm of the castle and its gardens—a true hidden gem that we hope will be shared and appreciated by many.
